To Say Dede Wilsey is a Crusader for Good is No Colorful Exaggeration
There are men and women in our world who labor each day for the benefit of the world and not merely themselves. These brave souls do things that others are simply not willing to invest time and effort into and it is because of them that we can regularly expect the world to get better despite any and all setbacks that might come its way. Because these people live and do the things that they do, we all are able to have a serious level of hope for a better future than what might sometimes seem to be imminent. People like Dede Wilsey are torches of passion, dedication and inspired effort. This is a woman who used her status as coming from the Dow Chemical family of wealthy people and has done even more good through her marriage to a husband who was a profound supporter of the arts. She has leveraged every last bit of her personal clout to raise money for hospitals to care for children, women and those with terminal diseases. She has not backed down even when the economy looked terrible.
Because of this burning conviction to do the right thing, she has lasted far past the levels her opponents were willing to go to stop the de Young Museum of art from being built. Dede Wilsey has brought all of her personal gifts to the table, but she poured in her own money, as well. She has given and given and refused to take no for an answer when many said such a museum, such a hospital simply was not feasible in the current economic climate. She never gave up and she continues to fight for the best of what people can give to the world through her efforts to raise funds for projects that better more than the city of San Francisco. They better the world.
